Project Overview
We are thrilled to share details of our recent project in the heart of Nottingham city centre, as part of the Broadmarsh redevelopment. Collaborating closely with Townshend Landscape Architects and ARES, we brought a unique and inviting play area to life, seamlessly integrating playground equipment such as bespoke swings, timber trails, and seating areas into the urban landscape.
Project Details
Location: Broadmarsh Redevelopment, Nottingham City Centre
Design and Collaboration, Supply and Installation:
– Initial Concept: Townshend Landscape Architects
– On-Site Coordination: ARES Landscape Architects
– Play Specialist: PlayEquip
– Client: Willmott Dixon
Bespoke Swings
We designed, fabricated, and installed a series of bespoke steel swings, specifically tailored to meet UK play safety standards. This required numerous adaptations to ensure compliance and safety without compromising on aesthetics or play value. Each swing is equipped with LED lights embedded in the top, ensuring usability and safety during the darker winter months and enhancing the overall ambiance.
Timber Trail and Seating
In collaboration with ARES, we developed a series of play elements and seating areas:
-Timber Trail: Crafted from FSC-certified oak, featuring vibrant red stained ends, this trail weaves through the planting areas, encouraging exploration and play.
– Timber Stack Seating: Robust and inviting, the timber stack seating provides comfortable resting spots that blend naturally with the surrounding environment.
– Seesaws: Integrated into the timber trail, these seesaws add an element of dynamic play.
Safety and Design Integration
The safety surfacing was thoughtfully designed to become part of a flowing red ribbon that extends along the ground and up into the red swings, creating a cohesive and visually striking design. This not only enhances safety but also adds to the playful and inviting nature of the space.
Community Impact
The completed site has quickly become a well-loved oasis in Nottingham’s bustling city centre. The combination of bespoke play equipment, thoughtful design, and seamless integration with the landscape has transformed this area into a vibrant and inviting space for relaxation and play.
This project showcases our commitment to creating innovative, safe, and engaging play environments that enhance urban spaces. We are proud to have been a part of the Broadmarsh redevelopment and look forward to continuing our work in designing and delivering exceptional play solutions.
