Our thoughtful, understated design elements at Greenhill Place, where play and architecture blend to create an inviting public space.
The central design features include a climbing frame with a mix of steel and hardwood timber, offering children a robust yet visually light structure for socialising, active play and exploration. The play area is complemented by our hexagonal wooden stepping blocks, arranged in a pattern inspired by the natural rock formations of the Giant’s Causeway. This design choice offers non-prescribed play opportunities, allowing children to engage with the environment in creative ways, while also providing additional seating for visitors.
To harmonise with the climbing frame, we powder-coated our playground telephones in a matching shade, integrating these playful elements seamlessly into the architectural landscape. The resulting space is more than a playground—it’s a community asset, with aesthetic and recreational value, fitting in beautifully with the surrounding public areas developed by Carver Haggard architects. This collaborative project has been recognised by prestigious organisations, having been nominated for both a RIBA and an AJ Small Projects Award.
This project exemplifies how public play spaces can offer informal, community-focused areas that are both functional and visually enriching.
